FACT SHEET - VOLUNTEER with YOUR St. Joseph County SWCD!
Our Board of Supervisors is comprised of 5 Elected/Appointed Supervisors who rely on the assistance of our dedicated group of Volunteers designated as “Associate Supervisors” (learn more) ...
If you’re not ready to commit to attending at least one Board Meeting each year and making your commitment quite so “formal”, perhaps you’d be interested in other Volunteer Opportunities?
Our office actually represents a Partnership of two agencies: The St. Joseph County SWCD and the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS). Our offices are co-located in the Plymouth USDA Service Center at 2903 Gary Drive, Plymouth, Indiana, 46563.
Earth Team Volunteer Program:
The volunteers that work with the Partnership typically do so through the NRCS’s “Earth Team” Volunteer Program. This arrangement affords the SWCD with liability protection, but it also provides you the chance to be a part of a nationwide team of Earth Team Volunteers who are greatly valued for their commitment to conservation.
NRCS partners with conservation groups and others to ensure private lands are conserved, restored, and more resilient to environmental challenges like climate change. Working side-by-side with farmers and ranchers, the NRCS identifies natural resource concerns, such as soil erosion and water quality issues, and develops unique conservation plans for restoring and protecting resources.
Earth Team Volunteers are an integral part of the conservation partnership and each member takes pride in the fact that they maintain and improve our natural resources and environment on private lands.
The first step in becoming a volunteer with our office is to tell us more about what opportunities you are seeking, your interests, your availability, etc., which can be done by:
Filling out the Volunteer Interest and Placement Summary which can be accessed online via the NRCS website
Giving us a call and we'll get you started (574) 936-2024 Ext. 4.
